Formula
Imperial
gallons needed = miles ÷ miles per gallon
gallons needed = miles ÷ miles per gallon
Metric
liters needed = (kilometers × liters per 100 km) ÷ 100
liters needed = (kilometers × liters per 100 km) ÷ 100
How it works
The calculator first adjusts the route distance if you choose a round trip. It then converts distance and fuel economy into the amount of fuel needed, using either MPG or liters per 100 kilometers depending on the selected unit system.
Fuel cost is the fuel needed multiplied by the fuel price entered. The result does not include tolls, parking, maintenance, or traffic-related changes in real-world economy.
Source: standard fuel-consumption math used in trip budgeting. Treat the result as an estimate, especially if road, weather, or load conditions vary significantly.
